In this post, I write about my experience with Apache Mesos 0.25 and Mesosphere Marathon 0.11.1 on Debian Jessie together with docker.

Mesos and Marathon both have a web interface which help when getting started.

I followed the getting started guide on mesosphere to setup one master and one node.

The setup didn’t work completly at first. The mesos master and marathon were ok and the mesos node was not connecting to the master.

The getting started missed some information about how to setup the node.

Another problem I noticed was that the ‘mesos ps’ command line wasn’t working due to a problem with the python libraries.

$ mesos ps
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/mesos-ps", line 10, in <module>
    from mesos import http
ImportError: No module named mesos

This error is solved by $PYTHONPATH in current terminal.

export PYTHONPATH=/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/

My setup for debian jessie is available on github

I have the impression that Mesos/Marathon are under heavy development and not yet stable.
